Have You Had A Guitar You Just Haven’t Ever Bonded With

Nope, on one. One I still have because it's just not worth the trouble to me to sell it.

I took a MIM Strat in partial trade for building a deck, didn't care for it, so I sold it.

When I got real serious about practicing, I bought a cheap used PRS SE Tremonti, so I could wear out the frets on that, instead of my nicer guitars, but even though I tried several guitars in the store, by the time I got some real time on it, I just didn't like it. But I still have it.

i wouldnt usually ever buy one i didnt like! but actually yes- i bought a martin 000-15s brand new. i played it for a week and just felt it was mediocre. i returned it for full credit on a 000-16s with a spruce top and still have it 25 years later.

I did that too, starting with a Taylor 414ce. Took it home, took it back, got credit on a 614ce, same thing, then went back and had the saleman open up 2 brand-new 714ce's so I could compare them with the floor model. One had a Cedar top; the other 2 were Spruce, one of which I bought, and have had it ever since. LOVE that guitar!

That I couldn't get rid of? No. I do, however, have a Schecter Nick Johnston at the moment that I'm not sure about. Setup from the factory was a bit shit and, while I fixed that, I don't know if I like the guitar. It sounds good, though. I'll hang on to it for another year or so and make a decision then :-)

I have a GIbson Les Paul ES VOS Black Beauty that is a beautiful guitar but not really functional for my style. I play high gain metal so an ES really isn't practical. The 2 or 3 three times a year I play jazz or blues I absolutely love the guitar but for all purposes it is a case queen. I can't seem to work the guitar into rotation but have no plans on getting rid of it.

Had a Suhr Modern Curly for a few years and although it played well I just couldn’t get the sound I was after.

5 sets of pickups later and I ended up selling it.

I had a beautiful steel string Godin that I could never bond with. Still miss that thing, but it was just hard for me to play. My Martin plays and feels so much better.

I do not hold on to anything that doesn’t bring me happiness. Trash or sell depending on its value.

I bought a Fender Baja Tele about 18 years ago at the peak of all the hype around those guitars. I sold it about 6 months ago to buy a Charvel. I never really bonded with the Baja all, despite trying to convince myself it was a great guitar (still not convinved they are all that special). The DK24 Amber i bought, on the other hand, is a fantastic instrument.

I have a Guild OM-240ce that is a great guitar that punches above its weight financially, and every time I pick it up I think “oh yeah, this is a great guitar”. But I never actually gravitate toward it.

I have a Harmony Comet that I’m deeply bonded with as my couch guitar, but I fuss with the pickups and neck dive when I play it out. The pickups actually are really nice, but they have a lot of personality, so I’m hoping I can just adjust my rig. As for the neck dive, I already have a strap with good friction, but I don’t love the feeling of that. I’m thinking about replacing tuners and seeing if there’s a heavier tailpiece.

I have other guitars I bonded with but don’t need right now that I just give to friends for long term loans.

I bought this SG back in 2022 and from day one didn’t get on with its neck .
Kept at it now and agin but no just didn’t bond with it.
It basically came out when friends were here and wanted to play it.
A friend was here over Christmas and it was used also by me and it’s not gone back in its case .
It’s been sitting next to my coffee table and been in constant use .
So at last it’s grown on me after making myself use it over the last few weeks 👌

From day one and really tried but couldn’t bring yourself to sell it?
Have you still got it ?

I got a 8 string Jericho evertune walnut tele that weighs like 20 lbs that I'm thinking about taking a drill bit and 20 grit and doing some trailer park weight reduction on it. it's not even worth that much in resale, and it's evertune + stainless frets so I can't bring myself to sell it, and I don't have another 8 string evertune, which is kind of invaluable utility for me. somehow...
