My pedal board is good fun, but noise is a concern, so I wanted to check if my power supply needed an upgrade.
On my board there is the aforementioned Harley Benton, and I happen to have a smaller board with the CS7, so I decided to DI the board into my interface, swap some power cables and see what happens.
I recorded a couple of seconds of noise (with an Audient ID22, Gain set at 3 o'clock), then swapped the power for each pedal, and recorded a comparison and this happened:
Those are the noise profiles taken with ReaFir after I bumped the noise floor further 40db up with Volume Adjustment in the box.
Track1 HB is the reference with all power coming from the HB power supply.
Track2 is the Mercury powered with the CS7,
Track3 is the TU-2 powered with the CS7.
I swapped all the power for all the pedals one by one, the picture was basically the same.
Nothing to see here.
No difference in noise.
Interestingly I had some initial changes, but swapping back and forth kept the lower noise measurement, so crusty connections seem to add to noise.
Re-setting plugs will benefit your pedal board's performance.
After that was settled, there was no difference whatsoever in noise performance between those two power supplies in this set up..
