Friedman IR-P (plex)

Is anyone interested in a more vintage inspired IR pedal from Friedman? Maybe called the IR-P to match his plex amp?

i really like the sounds of the ir-x and ir-j although they seem to be more modern sounding. Channel 1 of the IR-J seems to get into the vintage territory a little bit.

Would be cool to have a pedal with volume 1 and volume 2 controls jumpered when active.

Maybe channel 1 could be a superlead circuit and channel 2 could be a superbass circuit. Would also like a variac "brown sound" switch on a toggle.

I remember everyone discussing this months ago, and it seemed like it would be a seller.

I have a Twin Sister amp and the IR-D. These are designed around the JTM 45. I like these circuits because I can get everything from clean to medium high gain out of them. That is the range I play in and they do it well.

The one channel on the IR-X is a Plexi.

I could never get comfortable with my tones through the IR-X, but I like the IR-D. I tend to switch between single coils and HB guitars a lot so that may be one of the contributors.

IR-X clean doesn't seem like it gets gainy enough to be Plexi.

Honestly I think a single channel Plexi version of the Friedman IR would be a lot of fun!

But realistically I think the IR-D with the bright switches on would be really similar and sound great.

Going to disagree here. It is far more similar to a 2203. I've owned and played the DS40, Twin Sister, and IR-D extensively. The only thing JTM-45 about it is the power section.
I will agree with both of you and maybe split the difference. I think it's fair to say that the power section is the JTM45 but the preamp is a lot closer to the 2203/4. But the bright cap on the DS is a lower value than the JCM amps, I think it's 100pf instead of 1kpf (I can't recall now) and the tone stack values are slightly different too.
With the gain structure up it has a bit more gain than the stock JCM too.
Then it has some of the Friedman filtering, not as smooth as the BE amps but it's still there.
So I think it's a JTM/JCM hybrid design, but it's its own thing at the end of the day.

These amps are incredible BTW. Definitely my favorite Friedman and one of my favorite amps overall.

My statement was based on a comment I heard Dave Friedman make about the DS and TS amps. He stated it was based on the JTM-45. I haven't played a JTM-45 or a 2203 to have a comparison point. I have typically been more of a Fender amp guy and this was my first amp in the Marshall circuit realm. I wanted a Marshall for quite a while but hadn't decided on which one was the best for me. The TS seemed to fit what I was looking for so I went with that and am glad I did.

No thanks. No interest in that setup. I tried the Syn stuff and it was not for me.
Fair 'nuff... They don't have power amp sims or IR loaders built-in (at this point) like the X88IR and come with their own trade offs being a modular system rather than a dedicated product.

That said, the potential rack unit I'm really wondering about is if the Fish will get the X88IR treatment with X88IRs apparent success and Cantrell employing them again in a new/old rig. I remember the Fish being much more unobtainable than the OG X88 back when I was exclusively into rack stuff, which gave it an air of mystery. I have to admit I'd find that one really compelling.

I'm not as interested in the Pedal preamps. The IR-J was a big disappoinment to me... They seem to be popular though. I would expect a number of other BAD partners to show up on that front potentially too if it looks like there is $$ there. An IR-SLO would surely print money.

Like you....I am hoping the Fish comes out with the modern appointments to it!
I am super interested in getting one if it has what I am hoping for in it.

Maybe we will find out soon enough.
