I couldn’t find much out there about people trying the Celestion Vintage 10” in the Pro Junior, so I figured I’d post what I experienced.

I liked the original 10” alnico Jensen well enough, and I find this amp to be a great little nasty beast, along the lines of a brown Deluxe, and pretty Marshallesque to me. So I tried a Greenback 10” for a while. I found it a little dark, even with the tone on the amp wide open. It did sound good though!

I lived with it like that for a year, and just this week tried a Celestion Vintage 10” (a 10” version of a Vintage 30), and it did exactly what I was hoping. It added some bite and beef to the little combo. Sounds excellent to me. Like a mini Marshall disguised in tweed!

I also run it with an extension cab (Mesa Boogie 1x10” closed w/Creamback) and it sounds even better like that. Fills out the sound really well. I know I am running at 4 Ohms, but after I did some research, it seems the transformer in the Pro Junior can handle 4 Ohms, but that might be old info about older transformers in previous versions, so I am not certain. But, I have been playing like that for a few years with the previous Greenback and Jensen, so it seems to be holding up fine.

For reference, I generally use vintage output humbuckers, and run the amp controls for volume at 9 out of 12, and the tone on full.

Anyway, if you want some more bite and beef from a Pro Junior, and want it a little more Marshally, try a Celestion Vintage 10” in it!

I always thought Celestions fit the character of the PJ better than the Jensen. It’s got some Plexi vibe in the way it breaks up that seems to love Celestions.

My favorite was to run mine into a 2x12 with greenbacks

I bet that sounds good!
And I agree, it’s not a particularly “Fendery” amp.
I have run mine with my 2x10” Mesa cab with Creambacks and it sounds awesome with the internal Greenback before I did the most recent speaker swap. Could be a killer combo with the G10 Vintage now that I think of it. Time to give it a whirl!

i used to run a celestion ten30 in a frontman 25, and i LOVED that combo and recorded it as much as any of my way more expensive amps! i have no doubt that mix would rock!
