Any fans of this pedal? I know it’s not boutique cork sniffer delay material but it’s just a really cool pedal that does a lot of things pretty well.

I bought it right when they first came out and its been in its box for years, but I decided to put it in the loop of my stomp yesterday to see if it could replace my transistor tape or elephant man blocks and free up some DSP for other things, and it just sounds great.

It has so many different sounds packed into such a small enclosure, I don’t know if anything else can really compare. Multiple delay modes including DMM, tape, and a pretty good reverse delay, a totally useable plate reverb with predelay, octave, shimmer, can get some cool vibrato, chorus and flanger sounds out of it, it even has a looper.

It is a sleeper pedal for sure - the reverse algo on it is fantastic - and I like the DMM and Tape modes too. The only negatives for me are I hate those EHX knobs and the adjustment range on the secondary controls are too broad so it makes it cumbersome to find the sweet spots (modulation speed for example) - but the sounds are there.

Agreed on the controls, it’s tough to dial in the right delay time with how broad the range is, probably would not be a good choice for live use for that reason.

I forgot how bad the knobs were, I replaced mine years ago

I remember buying the Canyon and a Flashback II together, on the same day, in April of 2018. They complimented each other very nicely.

My favorite algorithm was shimmer. This pedal did that beautifully. Some shimmer delays sound hokey and not right, but this was nice - very listenable and musical.

I later added a dedicated tap tempo switch and got good results.

Some time down the road, EHX released the Grand Canyon, which offered dedicated tap tampo and the other features on dedicated knobs (no need to use the dual function knobs like on the Canyon. I liked that way better. It took up about the same board space as the Canyon and a dedicated tap tempo switch.

Pre-pedalboard days LMAO. It's been quite the rabbit hole.

It also had stereo outputs, which was a nice touch. I was kind of bummed that it didn't have stereo inputs (since I've been running stereo rigs since about 1998), which severely limited its placement on my boards. But, these two served their purposes for a while, until I went nuts and purchased numerous other higher-end delay pedals in the years that followed.

Following up the Shimmer algorithm with a nice stereo reverb really worked wonders. I often paired up with a Source Audio Ventris, or stacked it into a Nemesis, followed by the Ventris. Good times!

Delays were the first pedals I started buying, back in 2018 , after about a twenty-year stint of using rack gear and wanting to get back into dedicated pedals.

No regrets!
