Echo and I could use some good vibes right now

Yesterday when I woke up, Echo wasn’t there to greet me with his flapping tail and fluffy face, I had to wake him up. He went to the bathroom on his walk as normal and seemed mostly ok, played with his treat by tossing it all over before eating it then I was off to work. When I got home I noticed he was sluggish in comparison to his normal self. We went for his walk and he played with a neighbor’s pit, rather hard too, then finished his walk like nothing was wrong, except he started eating grass a bit. Not unusual for him.

He didn’t eat his treat when we got back in and then I knew something was off for sure. He was slightly sluggish but not overly so, so I carried out the plans to go hang at my friend’s house with his best friend, Braxton. I figured seeing another dog might get him feeling better anyway. Well, he started puking over there and eating grass like crazy. That’s all he wanted to do was eat grass. He was restless when laying down and just couldn’t stay comfortable. I changed his food earlier this week and figured it must be that, because while he was off a bit and puking he’d still be playing with his buddy, rough housing.

I said if he were still puking in the morning I’b bring him to the vet and he was, he also just laid down on the ground outside and didn’t want to move and that’s when I just grabbed my keys and hauled ass to the vet. They found a blockage in his intestine immediately. Got X-Rays and found a good size corn on he cob in there, which he had to have snagged outside when I wasn’t looking. I am ALWAYS on this dog about eating shit off the ground for THIS EXACT REASON!!!!

I had to leave him at the emergency clinic for the surgery and I’m just a wreck. His demeanor was great despite this until we got to that clinic and you could tell he was in pain and scared. I trust everyone taking care of him right now and they all said I caught it early before it could really damage his intestines, but due to the size and hardness it could require some additional surgery to repair the intestines. This guy has been my world since I got him a few months ago.

I don’t know what I’m going to do financially. My boss was kind enough to pay for the $6500 surgery up front and my Christmas bonus will cover a good chunk of that, but if this goes past the estimate I don’t know what I’ll do, I already spent almost all my own money on the emergency x-rays just to find out what was in him. I’m going to be listing some pedals and my Shiva to help cover this.

More than I can use some good vibes/prayers, if anyone is down with that thing, please send them Echo’s way. I won’t be able to pick him up until Monday morning, I’m not sure I’ll even be able to see him tomorrow. I just want my bud bud back with me.

Sending prayers your way. I’d take a bullet for my pets and it’s heartbreaking to see them in pain or sick. Hopefully he’ll make a quick recovery.

I’d recommend maybe a fund raiser to help with the treatment costs. A TGF T-Shirt sale perhaps? I know I’d definitely pick one up.

Dooooooooooooooooooooooood! You did great! Way to be in tune with Echo, and know something
was up. You've given him yet another chance on living a great life! :beer

Sorry for the mad expenses. That's a significant blow.

Good on you for getting him in great hands.

Mojo sent for a peaceful hearts and minds and a speedy healing. Oh, and an unexpected financial windfall! :hugitout

Puppy mojo sent to Echo. Good catch on him being out of sorts. Good dog dad! He'll be back home before you know it. Sending all the good vibes your way \m/

Ive so relate to this from my dog rescue days, and also now with the house fire.
My ex started a GoFundMe for me to raise money.
And Amalgam a PayPal donation thing.
You can google paypal donation button
All that comes up for me is the German version (being in Germany)

I’m sure just with us folks here that can make the difference.

And hoping for a speedy recovery for your pup… my white roadblock says get well fast too.

Sorry to hear this Drew but it sounds like you caught it and your furry friend will be ok. Our critters are like our kids. Since we put Ginger down I miss her more than I miss people that have passed. Thankfully and hopefully you will have a long time with Echo. Such a good boy 😃

Man, that's tough (I am understating this considerably, as I am one of those who likes animals more than most people). But you found it in time, so hopefully there will be a happy ending.

Thank you, everyone.

I just got an update from the vet; they had to sedate him to get his IV in, they wanted him good and hydrated before going under the knife and he wasn’t having it ‘cuz my boy doesn’t let anyone fuck with him. :love They then gave him a high dose painkiller so he’d be comfy while getting fluids and sitting in his little doggie jail waiting cell. They have some triage surgeries to get through but he’ll be getting his surgery this evening.

I got some playing in earlier which was certainly helpful, while I get writer’s block and get frustrated about that, I can still pick up a guitar any time I’ve got anxiety and within a few minutes it’s gone. A friend gave me some of my own meds to relax earlier, which was also a help and knocked me out for a couple hours.

It just blows my mind that the ONE damn thing I’ve been so cautious of happened just like that. If any of you heard how much I talk about yanking shit out of his mouth you’d know where I’m coming from, but everything out of my mouth at work is about how amazing he is and how much I’m yanking shit out of his mouth and how worried I am this will happen. Bud’s getting a muzzle for his walks from now on. :rofl

And absolutely, @Sleezy E, kids aren’t for me because dogs fulfill that aspect for me. My first dog taught me what unconditional love meant and while I’ve only had Echo since late July/August, I love that dog to death. I’m borderline obsessed with him.

How’s your pup doing lately, Ed?? And yourself for that matter, I haven’t seen on update on FB in a little bit.

After getting a few PM’s asking about this and pushing through a bit of pride, I’ve setup a Paypal donation button via my Paypal. I’m keenly aware of what time of year it is and how many are strapped for cash in general these days, I do not expect a dime from anyone but if anyone can donate, I’ll be forever indebted.

Hell, I’ll do tricks on a pogo stick, naked, if it’ll help bring in money right now, I’ll even learn your favorite song (as long as it’s not a fucking Dream Theater song) and play it while naked pogo’ing.

Edit- I’m having some issues getting that link to generate to post anywhere else, there’s no way to even access the Donation part of my Paypal account without clicking Ed’s link above, extremely confusing. Of the one donation I already relieved (thank you, brother), it’s not letting me accept it until it verifies my account, which I don’t understand as I’ve had it setup for well over a decade. There is no button to verify my account once I select the account. I’ll try calling someone on Monday. In the meantime, my regular paypal should suffice, DrewJD82@gmail.com.

I know it's not helpful now but I'd see if you can tag on pet insurance. I think we pay $35 a month and it's a lifetime deductable of $1000? Per issue. So any GI issues or surgeries my dog needs will now be covered 90 percent as we've reached that 1k a few months ago. Same with dental issues.

Anyway, maybe see what's available and get him on something to prevent those massive bills in the future. But hopefully there won't be any additional vet visits 🤣
