Counterfeits

I am no fan of copies either. At far as I know PRS has never given any guitar company permission to copy his body shape but I have seen some copies out there. I am guessing that he hasn't gone after them because they are in anther country and that really complicates suing them for it. There are plenty of legit guitars out there from the original manufacturers at many price points. Just buy the real thing. It will be a better guitar.

Considering they make the singlecuts and the silver sky Paul would be on pretty thin ice going after any company that produces a PRS alike that hasn't also used their logo or exact headstock shape.

I have no issue with a copy that is clearly marked/branded as what it truly is.

A Les Paul shaped guitar with a different headstock and the name PRS, Agile, Heritage, Harley Benton or whatever is easy for a buyer to identify and know what they are getting.

A counterfeit guitar that says Gibson or Fender or whatever brand they are ripping off is both illegal and unethical. Even if the original buyer knows, they end up in the used market and people get ripped off. These guitars should be destroyed or clearly and permanently labeled as fakes.

Now I think I'll buy a counterfeit t shirt. Yeah!!!!

Not exactly. Paul already won the lawsuit on the single cut. The body on the Silver Sky has different carving on it than what a Strat has. It also has a headstock with a 3 per side tuner layout and not all 6 on one side. It is not an exact copy of a Strat.

Most of the PRS copies aren't exact either. Apart from the fakes from chibsonland I haven't seen anyone using the PRS headstock.

I thought it was the right call when they won the Gibson lawsuit and don't care that they're making a strat but because they make a strat and a les paul I don't get annoyed with any other brand making a prs-alike either.

I like a faithful honest replica of something that is now unobtainable or insanely expensive. I have built a few for touring players who don’t want to take vintage gear out . Things like my main Strat

A faithful 54 replica but with a couple of player mods . In this instance a 16” radius, 57110 stainless frets, EJ and Gilmore wiring mods. But on a cts push pull instead of the mini switch keeping it stock looking.

Crapocasters are a hard pass as are Chibson but so are Epiphone 🤣

I absolutely hate fakes. I found a fake Les Paul in a pawn shop. They didn't know it was fake. I told they shouldn't just take my word for it and they should pull it from the rack and research it before they sell it. They did that and found out that it was truly a fake. They got burned on it. They marked it way down and put a sign on it that it was a fake when they put it back on the rack. I commend them for doing that but IMHO they should have just ate it and destroyed the guitar. It is technically illegal.

Now as far as body shapes, there's a reason PRS ended up having to win a court battle against Gibson to still be able to make their "Singlecut" guitars. So how could they win a lawsuit if someone made a similar shaped guitar as the Custom 24? As long as there are no birds and the headstock is altered, I say fair game for a no name copy.

Like this. Not a counterfeit at all.
