Chester Bennington

So many unfortunate situations from one of my favorite books. I was working at MTV TX the day her plane went down and she was literally playing out on the hour in all 40 territories. A very sad day, whether one liked her releases or not. The Anne Rice vamp books could all be done in cgi nowadays in the way she wrote them. Likely due to this aberration of a book depiction, that will never happen. I did not realize it was Chester on that song.

The first time I saw the video for “One Step Closer” I laughed my ass off. I completely believed they were a plant put together by a label to look and sound like something the kids wanted. I quite literally laughed rather hard. Then “Crawling” came out and I was like “Shit, this dude can belt it out…” and I paid a little attention. Ended up loving that first album and a lot of the second.

Once they got a bit too poppy I wasn’t as interested, but always followed Chester because he was such a killer vocalist. Didn’t always like the sound of his voice, but I very much appreciated what he was doing with it and recognized the skill and endurance.

His death was an odd one for me, I remember tearing up over it out of shock and just sadness, despite not being a big fan. Such a young dude with immense talent, but I remember feeling particular sad for the fans.

Can’t say I’m digging the new stuff with Emily. I much preferred her in her previous band, that was stuff I could get on with.

Going to try and listen through their catalog today. I don't think I've ever sat down and intentionally listened to Linkin Park outside of when my mom got a free copy of Meteora (she used to work for a music retailer).

I really would like to have seen him with STP. That would have been a great gig.
