Been itching for one of those yellow jokers to channel my inner Dann Huff.

Came in a super dope hard case. In tune out of the box, which is always a good sign. Nice low action, no buzz. Neck is nice. Has a natural feel to it. Minimal top coat. Size is great. It feels like a traditional S neck, but slimmed enough to play fast. No baseball bat. I’ve been playing my RG a lot lately so any non-wizard neck profile feels awkward at first, but I was riffing around pretty comfortably after a half hour or so.

Really digging the pickups. Everything but my LP has super hot output, so it’s fun to play something that doesn’t completely bludgeon everything downstream in the signal. Neck pickup has this wonderfully warm cut and clarity. Position 2… this is where the 80’s tones live. Sweet jeebus. I spent hours on this position, straight into the JC with the chorus on.

I like position 4 a lot too. I haven’t spent a ton of time on the bridge yet, since I’ve been lost in JC/H90 land but we’re going straight into the x88 today to drop the hammer.

Mid boost is interesting. This far I’m liking it turned all the way down, but that still gives just a slight boost and changes the character. Really cool because it makes the guitar feel like it has 10 positions not 5, one for each combo of mid boost on or off. I’ll see how the mid boost does under heavy gain now.

Was originally thinking I might do a pick guard swap to solid black, but now having it in person I’m not so sure. The pick guard fits the aesthetic better than I thought.

I now own guitars that are yellow and purple respectively, wtf have I become. :ROFLMAO:

Congrats!!!

I’ve kept myself away from reading too much about the JTG’s because I know I’ll be tempted and there’s other shit I want/need before one of those. But with all the Huff videos popping up lately and hearing those Tyler tones, it’s REALLY damn hard to put it in the back of my head.

Midboosts can be tricky to find the ‘right’ usage for, when I started using my Gilmour Strat, the way I was dialing in tones at that point didn’t lend themselves to the midboost, but once I started dialing in tones with the idea that I had one and wanted to utilize it, I found I could dial in tones neutral enough that turning it up would turn a single coil into a humbucker. Not sure how that’d work with a humbucker already on the guitar, but it’d probably be great for beefing up some edge of breakup/cleaner tones.

Always Go There™

I say that, while my #1 is Purple Rain.

Women guitars come and go, but the Purple Ibby has survived the gauntlet of incoming guitars over the years and I finally just accepted, I just really like that guitar. Keeps the LP relegated to the closet most days. I need to keep the Purple and Yellow axes out on stands to liven the room up. :ROFLMAO:

Ran her through my AxeFx presets :chef

I get the mid boost now. Under gain, lead lines sound really good with that mid nudge and comp. It’s actually a good pseudo OD. I disabled the drive block and just used that as the mid boost and it does the job to tighten and focus things.

The humbucker really cuts under gain. Snappy and articulate.

Position 4 with the mid boost on (all the way down) is great.

And the damn thing stays in tune like a champ. I forced myself to tune up finally, but it didn’t really need it. :ROFLMAO: My LP needs to be tuned about every 5 minutes. Even the Ibby after half an hour. This thing just stays dialed, even with me spazzing on the dive bar.

Very cool guitar. I was a little nervous about whether I’d jive with it, but we are off and running.

Only mild head scratcher is that if the mid boost is depressed (in) it means the mid boost is off. That throws me off, but I’m sure I’ll be used to that after a couple days.

Think I’m going to leave her in E flat. I have enough guitars tuned to down to the dark side.

So E flat isn't the dark side?
Penalty: 2 days of playing exclusively in F# major, the happiest of all keys! Possibly to be reduced in case you throw in some F# lydian (hence entering the wonderful land in which B#s live) on day one!

Actually my fave use of the boost on the Tyler’s is on but turned all the way down. So it’s not a boost by rather a buffer sounding thing recovering top and bottom cables loose.

The whole kitchen sink switching on Tyler’s is upside down from what I’d expect. Blower switch activated up.
Pick up switches…up series, middle split, down parallel.

Same here (probably because this suggested it before).

@Whizzinby the tuning stability is really impressive hey. It's my best behaved guitar with a trem in that regard. Sounds like we had similar experiences with it arriving in tune and setup ready to go.

I can echo the arriving in tune as well. That was quite surprising.

Yeah the tuning stability is kind of remarkable so far. The NJ Schecter this is replacing in the stable, (Granted different price bracket) I couldn’t breathe on the tremolo without it going out of tune. I’ve tuned this joker once so far. Ha

Digging the hell out of this thing. It’s a vibe.
