Super sad day on the Mt in in California. We had a very dry start to the winter and the week following Christmas it arrived and has been ramping up with one to two storms a week blowing through. Just a month or so ago we watched 'Buried' a Netflix documentary on a 1980's avalanche at Alpine meadows the sister Mt to Squaw

That was a big storm that just hit the West Coast that had a lot of wind. Wind is said to be the architect of avalanches.

I was out BC skiing in our local Washington State mountains yesterday. Luckily our steep tree lines finally had enough snow with a good base to make them skiable.

I was trying to catch up to a friend (we were both out solo) who continued on the Ridge route to a higher point but I had to peel skins and ski down due to high winds that was transporting the new snow and quickly forming wind slabs at and right below the ridge.
