Airis 51-FITHY SS Amp

I've had my eye out for this for a while now - Airis recently opened preorders for their 300W solid state amp based on a 5150. There isn't a ton of information available, but the clips all sounds good to me. Despite the lack of information, I've liked the Airis stuff I've tried, so I'm tempted.

FWIW, there's a Recto version of this type amp on the horizon as well. Could also be interesting.

Hasn’t shipped yet. Hopefully it’ll go out this week. He just wrapped up done demo clips for his website and will be shipping shortly.

Half rack but chunky seems kinda dumb. 2U makes more sense. Sounds cool in the clips though.

The 3U size could be driven by the size of the output transformer.

The 3U orientation is a non starter for me but I definitely appreciate the innovation. I wonder what they are using for that 300w power amp. If someone gets it right there could obviously be a huge market for amps like this.

The form factor makes sense when you consider you can connect the 51 and upcoming Recto amps together to span a 19” rack setup.

I’d still prefer 2 separate 2u devices. I could see advantages to the dual 3u design if the power amps give off heat or something, but it’s class D so I doubt that’s a huge issue.

Yeah when he told me he was selling the ugly prototype, I had to have it as I knew I wouldn’t like the 1/2 format. Mine has a different method of labeling the front/back of the chassis that he wasn’t thrilled with.

From what Richard said, it has a lot to do with his new printer not being able to do the 19” format and he’s trying to keep as much done in-house as possible.

Yeah the clip he’s made sound awesome. It’s 300 watts with a 4 ohm load so prolly 180’ish at 8 ohm.

Yeah likely non-issue. And same. 2u standard rack size for me.

Mesa and Fryette both fit absolutely massive transformers in their 2U rack amps.

Yes, Fryette uses toroidal transformers to accommodate the form factor.
