Hello everyone this is my first post here,
I've been playing electric and acoustic guitar in original bands and cover bands for years, but I've never had to run my own sound. For acoustic, I just plugged into the DI box. Someone else made sure I sounded great.
My son is playing acoustic guitar now and is writing his own songs. We are far enough along that I though it would be fun to setup a few mics, and connect everything into an EV 50M I use for practice, so that we could hear what we would sound like together "live" - the 50M on one side of the basement and us on the other. I connected my son's acoustic with active internal pickup directly to the 50M mixer with an instrument cable. My acoustic has a passive pickup. It didn't work directly into the 50M, so I went through a boss gt 1000 with a patch that just has an EQ block, set flat so that I can control the volume. The gt main is connected to the 50M.
Both guitars sounded pretty bad. Also, I'm playing lead, and the low E and A strings are lost in a max at a volume that works well upper 3 strings. I'd like some general advice to give me some direction. Should I adjust my EQ in the 50M or in the gt? The gt's eq has a 6 band and you select the band width and cuts. Also the gt has a "transparent" amp. Maybe I sound use that instead of just the EQ block.
My son is playing rhythm. I set the 50m for "acoustic" but I'm still not happy with it. it has a standard low/mid/high eq like i'm use to from my amp days. But I wasn't able to get something I was happy with.
Thanks
