I kinda want a Strat shape body but I want a T.O.M. bridge. That would make the string width 50mm instead of 53mm at the bridge pickup. Does this affect the string spacing on the neck in any noticeable way?
Not enough to be a visual issue, and depends on the string spacing at the nut too. I don't like the vintage spacing of strat bridges and normally get something that's got a 2.125" or smaller spread.I kinda want a Strat shape body but I want a T.O.M. bridge. I think T.O.M. spacing is 2”. Is that going to feel weird on a Strat neck? Not enough to be a visual issue, and depends on the string spacing at the nut too. I don't like the vintage spacing of strat bridges and normally get something that's got a 2.125" or smaller spread.
It shouldn't?I think T.O.M. spacing is 2”. Is that going to feel weird on a Strat neck?
Don’t know yet. Probably going to do the string through body but not sure what else is happening yet.It shouldn't?
It may feel a bit different at first, if you're used to a larger spacing naturally. Are you doing a recessed tom or tilt back pocket?
Just having a tom style bridge itself is change enough on a strat, regardless of string spacing. I wouldn't worry too much about the spacing, but more on neck radius to match whatever tom you get and tilt pocket or not.Don’t know yet. I’ve got an old Carvin neck. I think it’s 12”. Maybe 14”?Just having a tom style bridge itself is change enough on a strat, regardless of string spacing. I wouldn't worry too much about the spacing, but more on neck radius to match whatever tom you get and tilt pocket or not.
This is when having a set of radius gauges comes in handy.I’ve got an old Carvin neck. I think it’s 12”. Maybe 14”?
I’m almost certain that i got it when they were making them 12”.
25.5 for sure. This is when having a set of radius gauges comes in handy.
Can't remember but were their necks 25.5 scale or 24.75"? That's something to keep in mind.
I’ll be honest with you, I just want non-vibrato and Gibson string spacing. I don’t care if it’s Tune-o-matic brand.Remember that you will have to account for the height of the TOM, so either the neck needs to be angled or the bridge recessed into the body. Warmoth seems to offer several options for this tho.
IMO the TOM is one of the shittiest bridge designs out there (low intonation range, needs tailpiece/stringthru, the neck angle issues, can collapse in the middle over time...) so I'd just save yourself a lot of grief and go for a better fixed bridge like the Hipshot Hardtail that Warmoth offers.
I like the 'harmonica' style tom that the old Ibanez Artists used. Much more beefier.Remember that you will have to account for the height of the TOM, so either the neck needs to be angled or the bridge recessed into the body. Warmoth seems to offer several options for this tho.

I should grab one of those for my Surfcaster. The Wilkinson that’s on there now makes the B string ring between the bridge and trapeze. I wouldn’t mind if you couldn’t hear it through the amp.For what it's worth, I installed the Hipshot Tone-a-matic years ago, and it was incredible. The sound of my Gibson Shred V with that bridge was everything I could've wanted; it got rid of a ghost note caused by the factory installed Kahler, and it went from no sustain massive sustain and depth of tone. Also, the intonation range is bigger on that than on any other tun-o-matic I've seen.

I dunno, man..Go here:
And post your question. Ask "Aaron" (he works there) if you want to be specific.
Aaron always seemed pretty helpful over at TOP though. He's probably still over there, not that I'm recommending anybody go over.Erry question I posted over there during my build was answered with a snotty response to "go watch a Warmoth YouTube video."
You're right.. Aaron did come into one of my threads and actually answer my question about the Warmoth truss rods.Aaron always seemed pretty helpful over at TOP though. He's probably still over there, not that I'm recommending anybody go over.
